I haven't been to any wedding for quite a long time. Last week I attended my first ever friend's wedding. Grace is my friend from Penang and married to an American asian dude. Therefore the wedding reception was in american style at a hotel in Milpitas. So far every single wedding I been to is those rowdy-yamseng-chinese type so this is really something new to me.
The reception started at 5pm by a pool side, and people just mingling around, having beers and chilling. By 6pm, the dinner started. It's a punctual one mind you:) Before the entree was served, the parents from both families gave a short speech. The dinner went on for the next 2 hours, a single-course meal as opposed to our 8-course shark-fin soup meal, with the bride and groom stopping by each table for a toast. I was in a table with all the Malaysian friends, so when it came to toasting, the boisterous Yum Seng tradition ensued. It must be an eye-opener for the rest and definitely heighten the delightful spirit. After the dinner, everyone gathered at a dance floor to witness the so-called "the first dance" of the bride and groom. Not sure what's the significance of this dance but i think it's probably equivalent to our usual groom singing karaoke love song to the bride.
It then followed by a sweet dance between grace and her father. And not forgetting the flower throwing ceremony for those single women. The whole ceremony are pretty much ended when everyone was invited to dance around. We hang around for a while, took pictures and enjoyed this very happy night out. Congratulation my friend!
Grace has a large group of penang friends and a lot of them are from Chung Ling. My high school buddy Taiboon was here for the wedding too. He is still working on his Phd in chemical engineering. Analogically, i think i have done a half marathon to get a master degree. Doing a Phd is probably like running a full-marathon, the endurance needed isn't just double but exponential. Salute!
That saturday morning we went to Mystery Spot at Santa Cruz. It's a really interesting place.
The admission is only 5 dollar. Mystery Spot is a house built on a little hill, with lotsa optical illusion setup to fool your equilibrium perception. Things appear to defy gravity with ball rolling up, water draining up an inclined plate. On top of that, the articulate tour guide did try to talk you into believing it's really due to some distorted gravity force, that at some point I really thought it was real. Well, who cares about all the physics. Let's do some Michael Jackson famous inclined dance move:
For a 5 dollar entrance fee, this is definitely a place to have a fun saturday morning.
