2/3 of 2008 is gone. And Happy 51st Merdeka to Malaysia! Despite all the negative news that pop up every now and then, Malaysia is still one of the best nation in south east Asia. Speaking of corruption, it's a real shock to me that Thailand has such a bad situation with riot going on and emergency state declared. My impression on Thailand has always been a peaceful one but it changes overnight. Aren't you glad that you are a Malaysian?

My greencard process has been re-started after being halted following Marvell's retrenchment last year. Part of the procedure requires Marvell to advertise my job, interview some candidates, confirm that these candidates cannot fulfill my job functionality, and thus establish a reason for my greencard application. So last week HR handed my manager over 50 resumes, from which he needed to select the candidates. I supposed this whole thing shouldn't be transparent to me, but my manager asked me to screen the resumes and reject those under qualified candidates. In the end, we narrowed down to 10 or so and forwarded those candidates back to HR. Frankly, my job functionality is not that hard to meet. In fact my skill set can be fulfilled by any computer engineering graduates. Not sure what's the impact on my currect status if they did found a suitable candidate and decide to hire him/her, but I really don't care about the greencard. After all, my plan to go home 2-3 yrs from now hasn't changed yet.

9/1 is the US labor day so we got a long weekend here too. Who said there's no Merdeka holiday in US?:) In fact it's a fantastic weekend!

On saturday morning, my manager, Bill, invited David and I to go boating. Bill is a Chinese immigrant but his lifestyle is totally americanized. He drives a SUV, owns a boat, enjoys fishing and keeps a german shepherd. A good life indeed. We started from San Leandro marina, crossed all the way to San Francisco bay and back. It wasn't a big boat with max speed around 25mph. It was a fun boat ride, especially we brought along the german shepherd, Sammi. She is about 1 year old and around 60 lbs. You think german shepherd is fierce don't you? But this one has been pampered since puppy and right now she is way too friendly to be aggressive. So cute la! I definitely want a dog when I move back to Malaysia.

Having a dog is my dream. So is getting a motorcycle. And the dream came true on 9/1/08 after weeks (or years) of anticipation. Just last week, I took the DMV written test. With 4 questions wrong I barely passed it. Phew! I am way happier getting a M1 than a greencard:) Since then I keep looking on Craigslist for Ninja 650R but it's really hard to find one. SV650 on the other hand is more popular in the market. On monday morning, I saw a sale post of a blue SV650 located in South San Jose for $4800. Without hesitation, my friend and I went to the seller place, and i rode it home:) It's a 2005 model with 3000 miles, practically new and the price is about right. My friend was kind enough to lead me back home, i.e. I followed behind his car so that I can focus on riding. I insisted taking a local route instead of the risking myself riding in highway. It was a stressful 1 hour ride from south San Jose to Sunnyvale as I was pretty nervous and doing 35mph only.

I always thought I would get a Ninja 650R. Guess I just lost my patience waiting for one and settled for SV650. It's like "the one you married is probably not the one you like the most" sort of things... haha! More picture next time.
