I am a frequent blood donor. I make it a point to donate every 2 months. Felt very much appreciated when the donation center bump me up to "gold-card" status.

Speaking of the advantage of blood donation from donor perspective, apart from the great feeling derived from altruism, I have been under this wrong impression that it's good to have "new" blood generated to "replace" the donated one. Apparently this is not really a scientific thing. The real benefit lies in the fact donating blood gives away excessive iron in our body. Too much of iron increases the risk of heart disease and cancer. This explains why women generally are less prone to heart disease because they shed excess iron through regular menstruation.
hmm this post is weird, a little too educational?
