Went back to school for TOC recruiting. Time flies. Exactly a year ago I was like those students busy walking around booth and talking with recruiters. Since Marvell is not very well-known in CMU, most of the students didn't know what the company is doing. I had repeated same information over and over again and it got boring after the first 2 hours. Also, it was kind of awkward when my previous TA who is a Phd student handed me his resume. They were actually some phd students dropped by and I really didn't know what to talk when all the stuff on their resume looked alien to me. This 6 hour event was really tiring and I probably shook more hands in this 6 hours than i did for the past 6 years. Before TOC, my roommate who is recruiting for Oracle got all excited about seeing some hot chick at the event. Well, CMU hasn't change much, i.e. I don't see many pretty girls:( Oh well, we should have known that considering temporal locality principle, at least for CS and ECE majors. All in all it was fun going back to CMU, especially when everything is at company expense plus the 3 days off. The only bad thing is the whole day flight from CA to PA and back. On the way to CMU, i was sitting next to, i think, a Thai lesbian couple and their "intimacy" made me extremely uncomfortable. Imagined that if there were gay I might consider requesting for other seat. On the way back to CA with connecting flight to Las Vegas, the couple sitting besides me are going to LA for marriage registration. Sure they were touching/kissing now and then but I was actually happy for them. Guess I am still discriminating against same-sex marriage.

Stock market is so volatile these days. Good thing to hope for: higher risk higher return. Marvell took a slum few days back. No doubt the recent earning release wasn't a good one. In fact, in the last all-hand meeting the CEO addressed that we were now at 6000 head count following intel xscale acquisition, and it's bigger than Broadcom now. He were saying that large number of employees created inefficiency which sort of led to some laid-off speculation. I am doubtful on my stock option now:( A friend working in Apple was asking me to stock up some apple. I know it's a good investment, considering the price doubles in a year and shows no sign of stopping but it's really too high a cost for me. Right now I am still looking at 5-15 range.

Stanford OS starting this coming week. Kind of excited to study again. When I told a friend about this he said I am a Nerd. How funny. This makes me wonder how ppl think of me as a person. A nerd? introvert? Shy? hardworking? Go judge, i really think i am neither study-type nor hardworking. But these days I am feeling extremely sporty. Can't get enough of tennis, squash and gym. And somehow I have become more a cleanliness and tidiness oriented. For the last six months I fold my blanket nicely every morning, which is something I never do in my life. I used to think it doesn't make sense folding blanket since you are going to use it again the next day. I also fold my clothes nicely after laundry. Another big change: I clean my toilet, like every 2 or 3 weeks! It's definitely not frequent enough to my mum standard. But considering I only cleaned my toilet like 1 or 2 time a YEAR back in univeristy it's really a huge improvement. Some guys don't tidy up their stuff because the gf or wifes are taking care of it. Knowing that, I have this weird thought that this change in habit was made by God, because He knows I am getting no one to do these for me. Argh, that's sad!!! Or another reason might be He trains me because I will be the one doing all the work for my partner, which makes me a good bf or husband! And that's sad too:) Okie now it makes perfect sense because my dad actually did all these. He wipes and vacuums the floor, cleans the toilet and folds my clothes too. But it was funny because my mum cleanliness standard is like a level up, and she is never satisfied by my dad's house cleaning.

Well, that was a bit of digression. Anyway, Marvell HR recently changed its tuition reimbursement policy. It is valid only if you enroll in graduate program. Taking courses as non-degree option in stanford is no longer considered for reimbursement. I am really mad at this. This change of policy is not making sense. Think about it, how many working professional actually enroll as graduate student at Stanford? They are probably trying to cut down expenses but come on this is listed as my employee benefit. So this time the HR is not going to reimburse it. Instead, they ask us to get refund from departmental budget. Luckily the department is kind enough. So i enrolled and bought a 128 dollar textbook, who cares:)
