So many upsets in this World Cup where underdogs are kicking some asses of soccer superpowers. France and England don't look too promising and may not even advance. And for the uninitiated, qualification for the second round goes like this:

1) Two teams advance out of every four-team group. The first and most obvious decider is points (three points for a win, one for a draw).

2) If two teams are tied on points, the first tiebreaker is goal difference – how many goals a team has scored minus how many it has conceded. The thinking is that this is the best measure of which team is better over the three games.

3) If that is inconclusive, the second tiebreaker is goals scored. This rewards the team that is more offensive.

4) If the teams are still tied on these measures, the next tiebreaker is who won the head-to-head matchup.

5) If they’re still tied, World Cup officials flip a coin, literally.

Well, 1-4 are pretty straight-forward. But flipping a coin? That just doesn't sound right to me. Can't FIFA come out with better scheme like penalty shoot-out or something like that?
