Back from Malaysia + Hong Kong + Macau trip. Pretty rush but wonderful.
Home is good. Congratulations to my 2nd sister and my bro-in-law. What's better than starting a new year with such a delightful family event? Papa and mama were very happy I can tell.
Spent 6D5N in Hong Kong and Macau. Local food was great and affordable even with Malaysia currency. Accommodation (Prince area in Mongkok) on the other hand was a tad expensive considering the size of the room. The hotel room was the tiniest I have ever seen and am wondering if room in Tokyo can beat that. Nonetheless it was clean and cozy. We did the usual touristy visiting, i.e. Victoria Harbor, the Avenue of Stars, The Peak, Soho, local night markets, shopping malls etc. And did i mentioned Disneyland? Forgive me sis, i had to admit it was fun this time around:)
The only thing to complain about in HK, personally, is the human crowd. Almost certain now that I am not a city person because I got dizzy looking at hustle bustle people rushing across the street when the pedestrian light turned green. I would imagine Tokyo Japan will have a comparable scene, if not greater. The crowd became worse on the New Year eve, hence we decided not to join the official countdown event although it would have been a great experience. We had a memorable countdown of our own nonetheless.
Macau is interesting. Alighting from Hong Kong ferry we were greeted with numerous hotel casinos that vie Las Vegas's. Modern, grand and all that. But a 10 minutes walk away from the main strip brings you to the historic side of it that reminds me very much of Malacca, basically an old town with many narrow alleys. And there lies the ruin of St. Paul. I still fail to understand why this piece of wall gets so famous. Since it was holiday season the town was beautifully decorated with lights. Pretty pretty. We didn't get to do much in Macau but I enjoyed every single bit of it, especially the evening stroll around the old town in drizzle. Egg tart and pork chop bun were overrated though. I like HK curry fishball + 鸡蛋仔 better.
So we made it to HK. and I am saving money now:)
