Green card, a much-coveted permanent resident status in the US, how valuable is that? To me it's just a convenience to go through the US immigration without those "oh-you-are-from-muslim-country" procedures. That being said, it really doesn't matter if i get it or not. I am in the process of applying one now, and the preparation is kinda annoying: medical check, vaccination, birth certification translation, tons of photocopied immigration documets etc. By the time it's approved, it might be time to go back Malaysia, so what's the point?
More paperwork. The official document for the house purchase is here. It's like 300 pages of paper right there. The problem is that all the signatures required witness of a diplomatic officer, which means i can only sign them at the Malaysia Embassy in LA. I calld them up, and was shocked to be told that they charge $7 dollar per witness signature. There's about 20 signature to be signed! The cost of going down to LA, renting a car, signing fees, courier-ing the documents back can easily add up to $500. Why not I just add a couple hundreds and fly back to Penang? In conjuction with July 4th week, Marvell the cheap company is having mid-year shut down at the end of this month. Perfect timing! So yeah, the plan is I am flying back to Penang the last week of June. Woohoo!
There is another agenda for this coming Penang trip, or perhaps it's the main agenda. Instead of playing the waiting and guessing game, maybe it's time to find out the answer. Chances? 50/50? I have no idea but other than embarrassment, what do i lose? I am wishing for this wonderful birthday gift at the age of 26.
