Haven't written for a while. I was actually quite free for the past whole week but I am just too lazy. Yeah! Totally done with school now, no more exams, no more assignment in my life.

4 years of university life ended, but it really felt like yesterday when I started in end of 2002. Definitely I learned and gained a lot throughout these 4 years. I am really glad that I choose CMU as my college instead of others. ECE program here is highly respected. I mean you really feel proud to tell the interviewers that you are from CMU. We rock! Campus life is fabulous too. I was a bit overwhelmed by work during the first 2 years of my college that i actually missed out some "college fun". CMU has always been recognized as a high-workload school. It really is. But I guess if i were to do it again, i would balance out and enjoy a bit throughout 4 years. Luckily my junior and senior yrs were really fun. While still working my ass off, spending endless time in lab, I had great time partying, clubbing, karaoking etc. No worries all these are healthy social activity. I get to know more fun people instead of my only nerdy ECE comrades. The best part is, we worked hard, and we partied not so hard, getting drunk once a week isn't too much rite:) Some of my friends said I changed a lot as compared to 4 years ago. But I think it is a good change. I am definitely more out-going now.

In general, I love my friends and don't actually have bad encounter with friends. I am pretty easy-going. I have friends from different backgrounds:

ECE comrades: Here in cmu you don't work alone. Working along in most cases equivalent to suicide, well maybe I am not smart enough to work alone. But people in general help each other to go through hard assignment. If i ever see my lab partner 10 years from now, it will definitely be like "hey remember last time we spent 30 hours finishing the project.... remember the bug that cost us a sleepless night ?..." Man it's awesome!!! Of coz there are some arrogant bastards that you will never seek help from them:) Lab partners just stick together, that's how ppl become couple. But no luck for me, there aren't that many girls in ECE anyway. I have been partnering with guys, and we become really close friends.

malaysian/singaporean community: malaysian here are pretty close-knit. I mixed well with the seniors as well as my juniors. In fact, I might be the most popular seniors here:) The reasons I don't know. Probably I am less "cool" as compared to others. You know some ppl actually act cool in front of the juniors. Not me Maybe I was too crazy with them. They actually look up on me in terms of choosing courses, internship searching etc. But I am definitely not the smartest here. I look up my seniors too, who are all doing great in life.

international friends: CMU is basically a international school, with lotsa Asians. It is basically fulled of rich asian kids. So there are actually many spoiled kids driving BMW, partying all days. But there are also many good students with good backgrounds. I am in particular close with a couple of HK friends. Yeah most of them are pretty rich but none of them show off. I had HK friends as roommates for 2 consecutive summers and had great time.

party gang: hahha, here comes the fun part. I picked up alcohol, poker, and lots of random knowledge through random chatting on friday night hang-out. Everyone has his/her own story to tell and that's the whole point of gathering. You worked so hard on weekdays and get drunk on friday.

College life is probably incomplete without some romance. It was complicated, bitter sweet kind of memory. For me there is only one in 4 years. I am glad to know her. You can say I am a loser but I don't care. I am still young:) Basically most of my male friends are still single. girls not so picky can? I am not that bad rite?

Holiday fun! Road trip is so common in US. Longest record is probably a 18 hours drive to Minnesota. Spring break to Bahamas island. Thanksgiving trip to Atlantic city. Summer trip to grand canyon/LV/CA. Winter skip trip etc. But after a while, you really feel like traveling out from the US, because most of the city look the same

Internships at Seagate Technology in pittsburgh and Qualcomm Incorporated in San Diego. Apart from earning good money, the experience are invaluable in terms of full-time job search. Internship is such a big thing in CMU that it can be a stressful thing. You get frustrated being rejected while your friends are telling you that they had google, microsoft, amd, intel, nvidia offers to choose from. I won't punch them in face but I will force them to treat me dinner. I was semi-forced to pay for a dinner that cost 370 USD, for the reason I got a full time offer. I probably can get shark fin and abalone with that money in malaysia. We had great time after all and that's good enough.

There are definitely more to be cherished and I am really grateful to have the opportunity to study here. It has ended but I am not sad about it. I look forward a totally new chapter waiting ahead of me. CA here I come.
